Exciting Kickoff to Westerner Days 2024

Westerner Days 2024 Begins with a Spectacular Start!

The first day of Westerner Days 2024 was a tremendous success, bringing joy and excitement to attendees despite the hot weather. The heat was no match for the misting stations and air-conditioned pavilions that kept everyone comfortable throughout the day.

The parade, a highlight of the festivities, saw an incredible turnout with 120 community partners showcased in a vibrant display of local pride and creativity. Spectators lined the streets, cheering on the diverse array of floats and performers.

The North American Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot Races kicked off with thrilling action, setting the stage for an exciting week of competition. After the first day, the top three spots are as follows:

Chuckwagons:

1. Riley Braaten – 75.42 seconds, sponsored by Expert Security Systems
2. Linda Shippelt Hubl – 75.84 seconds, sponsored by RCM Transport
3. John Stott – 76.89 seconds, sponsored by RST (Ross Sanderson Trucking)

Chariots:

1. Taya Young – 75.15 seconds, sponsored by Calgary Flames Ambassadors
2. Darren Twerdochlib – 75.55 seconds, sponsored by Parkland Nursery and Landscape Services Ltd.
3. Adam Waldner – 76.63 seconds, sponsored by Caltech Diesel & Automotive

Pony Chuckwagon races continue at 5:00 pm from Wednesday to Saturday and at 1:00 pm on Sunday.

The evening was electrified by performances from Nice Horse and Dungarees, with 15 other acts entertaining patrons both indoors and outdoors. The District was alive with music, laughter, and dancing, making it a memorable night for all. The Midway was abuzz with excitement as attendees enjoyed a variety of rides, games, and treats. From thrilling rides to delicious fair food, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
