April not only marks the spring season, but also the foundation work for our brand new Exhibition Hall. This new building symbolizes a bright future for Westerner Park as we continue to be Central Alberta’s destination for celebration. This 70,000 square foot multi-purpose facility will connect the Stockmens Pavilion and Agricentre. Allowing guests to flow through all of our buildings without having to step foot outside and with Alberta’s unpredictable weather, this is essential.
Approximately 50,000 square feet is allotted to host trade shows and other large events. The inclusion of a catering kitchen will make food prep and delivery a breeze for up to 3,000 people. Turf sports and activities will be supported with a convertible turf system during winter months. Furthermore, we want our guests to have a space where they can come together, which is why the Exhibition Hall will feature a gathering place within the front foyer. The structure and functionality of this building will support the introduction of the pedestrian Galleria, which is a future component of our updated Land Use Master Plan. We didn’t mention this was a multi-purpose space for nothing, it will include various components to serve our guests seamlessly.
At Westerner Park it is “business as usual” during the Exhibition Hall Project. While this construction has been moving forward, we have begun work on utility relocation and enhancement to our site services. By June the main structure of the Exhibition Hall will be standing and we can expect to host Agritrade in November in a temporary capacity. By February 2019 we anticipate a full functioning facility for all Central Albertans to enjoy.
