Red Deer Royals to play at the Memorial Cup
(Red Deer, Alberta) The world-class Red Deer Royals will give a musical welcome to crowds at the ENMAX Centrium for the final game of the MasterCard Memorial Cup on Sunday, May 29 from 1:45 to 2:15.
“The Royals are proud musical ambassadors for Red Deer having played at international competitions all over the world,” said Lisa Perkins, President of the Red Deer Community Band Society. “We are very excited to be able to perform at this prestigious event and support the Red Deer Rebels this Sunday.”
Since cancelling the Marching Showband Classic (MSC) for the first time in its 21 year history to accommodate the Red Deer Rebels playoff schedule, The Royals have been collaborating with Westerner Park and the Rebels to find a time for the Royals to perform at the Memorial Cup.
“We appreciate the Westerner and the Rebels for providing an opportunity for the Royals to play in front of our hometown,” said Director of Bands, Michael Mann. “Our band members are very proud to be a part of such a great community in Red Deer and are looking forward to welcoming fans, visitors and our local community on Sunday to what will be a great hockey game.”
In addition to their parade tunes, they will perform music from their 2017 field show “Magic” for the Memorial Cup crowds.
The Red Deer Royals play before thousands of people each year in concert, parade, and field show performances all over Alberta. They started their parade season this year in Caroline and their first field show competition will be on June 17 at the “Bishop Grandin Invitational” in Calgary. They will perform their field show in Red Deer on July 6 for “Sounds of Summer” at the Legion Field. In 2017, the Red Deer Royals will tour to the World Music Competition in Kerkrade, Netherlands.
