Another successful Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships Tarp Auction was held on Thursday, April 18 at the Cambridge Red Deer Hotel & Conference Centre.

For the second year in a row, Westerner Park is delighted to welcome the Alberta Professional Chuckwagon & Chariot Association (APCCA) back to the Westerner Days Fair & Exposition. The APCCA is the sanctioning organization for the 2019 Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships.

That night, local business owners were vying for the chance to display their business name and logo on one of the 40 wagons and 24 chariots slated to participate during the 2019 Westerner Days Fair & Exposition. The Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships are an anticipated annual event viewed by nearly 4,000 spectators each night of the Fair.

The highest selling tarp for the evening went to Clearview Glass Service Ltd., of Sylvan Lake, who purchased Len Campbell’s tarp for $7,700. The total of the tarp auction exceeded the 2018 sponsorship sales at $106,225, with an average of $2,656 per tarp. Prairie Water & Equipment Rentals from Camrose purchased the highest selling chariot of the night, taking Marty Maxwell for $1,600. The total of the chariot auction was $15,375 with an average of $640 per chariot.

Bradley Williams, CEO of Westerner Park closed the evening by thanking everyone for coming together as a community to play part in yet another action-packed Tarp Auction. On behalf of the organization, Williams expressed his gratitude to all of the sponsors for their support and the drivers who entertain us over the five days, acknowledging the integral role that the community and our sponsors play in Westerner Park’s overall success.
