Red Deer, AB – Westerner Park’s annual Christmas Artisan Market successfully broke their all-time food bank donation record this past weekend. Powered by ENMAX, the Christmas Artisan Market took place on November 30 at Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre and asked attendees to bring donations for the Red Deer & District Food Bank (RDDFB) in lieu of their admission.
The Central Alberta community helped raise an impressive 1280 lbs. of food and $1700.95 for the RDDFB, nearly doubling the amount of non-perishable food items from the 2018 event!
From 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, the family festival style shopping experience featured over 40 local and artisan vendors, with plenty of free activities for families to enjoy. Over 1000 guests were able to write letters to Santa, design their own holiday cookies, paint snow in the Harvest Gardens, and enjoy delicious festive drinks while getting into the holiday spirit. Families were able to capture the day at one of two photo op areas, but were careful not to wake a sleeping Rudolf who slept peacefully nearby in his stall.
Central Alberta Co-op was on site all day with their pre-made food hampers; they were pleased to have sold over 90 hampers for donation by generous shoppers! Central Alberta Co-op returned the generosity by providing the holiday cookies for children and families to decorate. Westerner Park would also like to acknowledge Sunny 94 and Shine FM for their valued media sponsorship.
The success of this event is a great sign that our community continues to value supporting our local charities and artisans. Westerner Park would like to thank the guests, vendors, volunteers and staff who braved the cold to attend the market, overall helping to make the 2019 event successful!
