November 26, 2020 | Red Deer, AB – Westerner Park hosted Western Canada’s only large dairy show to take place in Western Canada for 2020 on October 22 to 24, 2020 in their Agricentre. At the time of their event, Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines stated that there was a 100 spectators maximum for indoor seated/audience events. The event safely and successfully welcomed 79 exhibitors within their cohorts, 428 show entries, and 276 head of cattle.
This year was the first time the Dairy Showcase was live streamed thanks to the co-sponsorship of Lallemand, Penner and BMO. The show received over 5000 direct views from 17 countries and 10,000 views through their Facebook feed.
The event was also successful in raising money for the Red Deer Mustard Seed School Lunch Program through their live auction. The successful bidders generously donated the items back to re-bid on, helping reach the total donation amount of $3,300. (Please see attached picture)
Westerner Park is proud to produce the Westerner Dairy Showcase, in partnership with the dedicated volunteer committee of producers and industry leaders. It is the vision of the planning committee to create a place for industry members to showcase the best in the industry and to provide opportunities for industry updates and education. Between the committee and event volunteers, over 1,500 volunteer hours were contributed to help make this event a success.
The Westerner Dairy Showcase first began in 1954 and continues to be a valuable part of Westerner Park’s agricultural history, attracting exhibitors from across the Western provinces. Event highlights include the Central Alberta Holstein Club Sale, the Youth Show, the Jersey Show, and the Holstein Show. They also host industry seminars, a trade show, and the ever-popular Mega-Moola Jackpot.
