As a not-for-profit organization, so much of what we do relies upon the hard work and generosity of our volunteers!

It takes over 600 volunteers and approximately 21 committees to plan and organize Westerner Park produced events.

How to get involved?

2022 Canadian Finals Rodeo

We are thrilled to open Volunteer Recruitment for the 2022 Canadian Finals Rodeo! As our valued volunteers, you play a crucial role in the success of our event. This year, the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) will run for 5 days from November 2-6, 2022

Volunteer Shift Sign-up  

Here are the volunteer positions we are still keen to find help for. Each position includes a description as well as a link to sign up for any shifts that may work for you.

Bar Token Sellers

  • In this role, you'll be selling bar tokens to customers to enjoy beverages at the event. You will sell tickets with cash and/or debit exchange and verify ID.  You'll be under the supervision of the Finance team. Get a chance to be on the concourse during CFR and/or hear some great live music in the Cabaret! Cash handling experience is an asset for this position.
  • Special Requirement – Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older

Bartender Runners

  • As a runner you support the Food & Beverage Services team and are responsible for taking orders from guests, collecting tokens for beverages and recording sales, maintaining control of bar stock and order supplies, cleaning bar area and washing glassware.
  • Special Requirement – ProServe Certification & Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older

Contestant Transport - Dispatch

  • The dispatch volunteer represents our home base for the contestant transport operation. The dispatcher is in charge of sending and receiving calls to and from drivers transporting athletes and their families. Excellent communication skills are considered an asset for this role and radios are a key tool. This position may need to fill in for drivers from time to time. Drivers abstracts will be requested.

Contestant Transport - Driver

  • Drivers will be provided with a vehicle to transport athletes and their families between Westerner Park and their hotel as well as various venues throughout Red Deer. All volunteer drivers must provide a drivers abstract and possibly a background check in advance.

Fire Pit Attendant

  • The role of the Fire Pit Attendant is to maintain the safety of guests as you also keep the many fires going for everyone to stay toasty warm. This role is outdoors and will also require you to interact with guests, fellow team members, and supervisors on a daily basis. 
  • Special Requirement – Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older

Green Crew

  • This position will assist Westerner Park staff in ensuring the tables in the Cabaret are cleared and cleaned for all guests enjoying the entertainment and social atmosphere that the Cabaret offers.

Guest Experience - Pavilions

  • This position will be dedicated to information sharing for our customers and guests attending the various events at CFR. We will have an information booth in the Exhibition Hall, as well as a roaming presence throughout the pavilions. Customer service skills are a key asset to this role.

Guest Services - Centrium

  • The Guest Services position will be all about enhancing the fan experience within the Peavey Mart Centrium! Volunteers will be providing general customer service to guests and scanning tickets. Staff support will always be near to assist as needed.

Headquarters Support

  • This position welcomes every volunteer participating in CFR! We get to provide identification badges (accreditation) to volunteers and check them in and out of each shift. There will be computer work involved in this position. Some general tidying of the space will also be needed.

Moat Crew

  • In this role, you will be maintaining the moat in the lower Centrium each night during rodeo events. This involves shoveling and cleaning up after the animals. Having experience around cattle and horses is very important.

CFR Volunteer Orientation Sessions – October 25 & 27, 2022  

We are asking our volunteer team to attend one orientation session prior to the CFR to get all the important information about this exciting event and the role you play! 

We have Tuesday, October 25th and Thursday, October 27th set aside for these sessions in the Prairie Pavilion at Westerner Park (site map attached). The orientation will start right at 6pm, doors open at 5:15pm. Refreshments will be available.

2022/2023 Season - Red Deer Rebels Recruitment Open!

Event Services - primary goal is to enhance the fan experience and provide friendly customer service!

  • Greeting, checking and scanning tickets for spectator entry
  • Providing re-entry stamps as needed
  • Keeping entrances clear of obstructions
  • Being ready at your assigned area prior to the doors opening, checking for any potential hazards i.e. wet floors, chairs blocking stairwells, etc. 
  • Assisting spectators to the appropriate seating area, “Hello, can I help you find your seat”
  • Acting as general crowd control, i.e. "This concession line is very busy. For quicker service, could I suggest you move to the line over there? It has the same menu." 
  • For those over 18 years of age, you may be asked to assist our Food & Beverage team with ID checking at the bar locations prior to the game start and during intermissions
  • Referring any inquiries that you are unable to answer, to your Supervisor
  • Monitoring the spectator area for pucks going over the glass, which could potentially cause injuries
  • Escalating any inappropriate or restrictive behavior to the supervisor
  • The Tickets Alberta box office in the lobby will house lost & found items
  • Post-game guidance of spectators to the nearest exit
  • Being ready to pivot! Things can change during your shifts, so we are super appreciative of flexibility
